Trail Update
All of the land for trail use has been purchased or agreed to terms of purchase. Construction has begun west of Speedway and will commence in three phases.
Tentatively, construction will be finished in early to mid 2025, though, much of the work could be done by the end of 2024. The B&O Trails Association is working closely with Speedway Trails Association to finish the connection from downtown Indianapolis to County Road 250 E just east of Tilden, IN.
We will send out regular updates via email as well as post updated information on the Speedway Trails Association Facebook page and website. Additional updates can be found through the B&O Trails Facebook page.
Full connection of the existing B&O trails is set to be completed by 2025. This trail is being constructed alongside the B&O Trails Association.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Speedway Trails Association

Expanding the Trail
The B&O Trail was added as a paved pedestrian trail in Speedway in 2018. These initial efforts occurred with a continued hope for full connection with the existing B&O Trail in Hendricks County as well as the thriving trail system of downtown Indianapolis. This project received a boost in May of 2019 as the Speedway Trails Association was awarded $4.8 million to complete initial work for the trail. Most of this initial investment has been spent on land acquisition and planning for the building of the trail. Numerous volunteer hours have been included to offset the costs of building a trail in an urban setting.
While the Trails Association is working diligently to extend the trail in both directions away from Speedway, there is also ongoing planning to extend the trails within the community of Speedway. With a sprawling network of trails crossing Speedway, there is work to be done to connect the trails to one another. Additional discussions are ongoing for trails to extend to the northern edges of Speedway, stay tuned for information on that!
